It Was the Best Day

It’s been a long blogging hiatus for me. But I have a great excuse.

Meet Grant!

Introducing Grant

Grant Paul was born on September 4, 2014 at 8:27 p.m. We were so happy to finally meet him! It was the best day!

He was 9 lbs and 5 oz, 22 inches long. Way bigger than anyone [including the doctor] expected! However it was a smooth delivery and we both made it through safe and sound. Don’t mind the scrunchy face, he was really happy to meet us too.

We kept Grant’s name a secret from family and friends until he was born. No particular reason, we just thought it added a layer of mystery! Here is a picture of me with Grant still in utero while we were in San Francisco over the summer. We had a lot of conversations about his name during this vacation. Maybe a week after we took this picture I told Andy I was on board with Grant. Now I can’t imagine him having any other name.

Many of you may know that Andy and I wanted a baby for a long time but I especially thought it might never happen. So the verse below [a print hanging in his nursery] is especially meaningful to us. Also, the dictionary definition of grant is “a gift for a purpose.” like a grant given to a town or library to do something special and specific. Our little Grant is such a gift.

Even though there are some hard days and moments when both Grant and I cry together and Andy has to remind me we will get more sleep someday, we are so happy and so in love with our little chunker. Everything they say is true – having a child is a piece of your heart, a piece of you – right in front of you.
